Today We Are Closing One Chapter And Opening The Next: Living Our Life By Design

The Bozzo Family: Our Last Deployment Goodbye


Here we go. I’ve sat down to start writing this probably at least 30 times in the last week and every time I do… I just stare at the screen. How do I put this into words. The emotions. The excitement. The craziness!! The BIGGEST MILESTONE in my business to date and more importantly– the biggest milestone for our family.  A DREAM that I set almost 3 years ago.. an INSANE GOAL that I wanted to make become OUR reality. And today we made it official and today is the day that we are SHARING this with all of you.

After 13 years 6 months and 7 days of service, seven- 7 month long deployments, (too many to count) field trainings/assignments, 4 years spent APART during our 11 year marriage- Dustin Bozzo has officially separated from the US NAVY. We are officially DONE in the US NAVY!!!! I can’t even believe that this is reality for us. To KNOW that my husband will never have to deploy again. To know that he will be here with us everyday- forever. To know that I won’t have to WORRY and STRESS and WONDER if as he boards that plane to leave on his next assignment… if that would be the last time I would ever see my husband again. I am without a doubt GRATEFUL and SO BEYOND THANKFUL for his service to our country and FOREVER I will always hold a special place in my heart for our time in the Navy… but to know that we are now WHOLE is the biggest blessing and I am just so happy.

I will say that this was not a decision that we have taken lightly and it’s really been about a year in the making. We started the ‘what if’ talk last year at this time knowing that we would have to choose our next 3 year assignment. As the months passed on and my business kept expanding and growing… we really started seeing that the best choice for our family was going to be for Dustin not to re-enlist. It was time to put our family first, to provide balance for our life together and keep driving my business forward because it’s been mind blowing how BIG this has gotten and it’s really our baby! My role has always been a stay at home mom and my business  has just been super strict scheduled hours because obviously… family is first and always will be! He  knows that it’s my passion and seeing me work for the last 3 years has inspired him to continue to be my biggest supporter and hang up the uniform. And for us to be the best that we know we can be as a couple, as parents and as entrepreneurs—> he is putting on the full time daddy hat and staying at home to help me raise our daughters and to be my business partner and manager.

 

I will tell you too that I have worked my business during nap times, before the kids would wake up and after I put them to bed for my first year. Dustin saw that this was not just a fad for me.. but rather he saw the passion and determination unfolding. I will also tell you that about 3 years ago when I started my business and said ‘In 3 years babe.. i’m going to retire you early from the Navy so you can be a stay at home dad or just get out to do something MORE with your life.’– he actually got super offended and told me that would 1) never happen and 2) he would never get out of the Navy because he’s done it for so long that he will be a lifer… well … even with his words, I was DETERMINED to show him and prove him wrong 😉

So here we are now… And it just makes sense to take it to the next level. We have paid off all of our non mortgage debt in 2 years. We have set financial goals and Dustin has charted my business growth (past and future) and of course we always stay conservative.  Each time he did the math I would blow his mind with the growth.  Last year I grew  300% over the year before!  When I set a goal I go for it and last year I blew every projection out of the water and achieved not only the top coach in the state of Mississippi for the 2nd year in a row but I also achieved 10 Star Diamond which brings a very nice quarterly bonus with it!  This year is already proving to be much better than last and the goals that I have set are already beginning to be achieved. If you haven’t noticed yet.. I’m determined and passionate and I will never give up on my dream of changing the world. And we have also talked with our financial advisors- we have weighed the pros and cons- we have done it all.. and one thing that keeps coming back at us is this.. “WHY WOULDN’T YOU DO THIS!?!! IT JUST MAKES SENSE!”

So what does this mean for us?

It means that we finally have a choice in our own lives. We are not waiting for our next deployment date. We are not waiting for our next assignment. The girls and I are not waiting to hear when Daddy has to leave again.

It means that my husband and I get to work together! We get to be a TEAM and believe it or not- Dustin and I actually love each other and are really excited to work my business and raise our kids together. We are prepared and ready!

It means that we get to live our life by our own design. We have the income. We have the flexibility. We do not feel the need to live a crazy over the top life- we are happy and that’s what matters. And we get to spend our time together!!

 

 

We know that some people think that we are crazy. But look at us! Look at me! Do you think that we care what other people think? NO WAY! We care about ourselves. Our life together and living it how we want.. We LOVE living the unconventional lifestyle. We LOVE knowing that we can dream big and accomplish what we set out to do. It takes hard work everyday. It has taken a lot of sacrifices and we will continue to do what we need to do to grow.

Our kids’ education is already taken care of.

Our retirement almost completely set up.

Plans to pay off our house this year.

And so much more.

We live smart and we will continue to stay that way.

Maybe we are totally off of our rockers! Maybe people will continue to think we are crazy! But that’s okay!

I am so excited to have Dustin at home, to be able to not kill myself working early and late hours and to spend more time with him and to spend more time as a family! This change is going to allow me to be more present as a wife and I’m sure our house is going to run much smoother instead of the chaos it seems to be at when Dustin is gone! No more!! Dustin to the rescue! We are a team! He is not working for ME, we are a working together to make the Bozzo family as well rounded as possible.  This business is our livelihood and together we are gonna make this our jam!  I really am sad to say goodbye to the Navy in some ways! We have made some amazing friends and gotten some amazing opportunities! But we know that we’ve got new and exciting adventures ahead! But let me tell you this… How cool is it that each day both our kids wake up to US, we get to take them to school, have mid day lunch dates, go camping and travel in the summer, spend the afternoons at the pool and really anything we choose. My business is 100% mobile so we can do whatever we please while I work a full time biz. Life is sweet!

So the question of the day– is Dustin retired? What are his plans?

He is not retired- he is taking this opportunity for all that it’s worth and we are going to bring on a family unit of us and our business. He has been talking to a recruiter about the possibility of joining the Navy Reserves so he can still fill that small void of wanting to serve his country without the obligation of full time duty or deployments. He has options of creating his own passion in his own career. The best part– we don’t have to make any decisions about anything right now! We are secure and we can do what we want- when we want because he doesn’t HAVE to have a job!

So today, I got up and did my 5 am workout, Dustin got up and got ready to head in to sign his last paper, he made us some Shakeology before he left and he walked out the door to head to the base for the very last time!  He gave me a hug and a kiss, looked back one last time and I just smiled the biggest smile. And when that door closed. I cried. Not sad tears! But tears of HAPPINESS because this is going to be the BIGGEST BLESSING OF OUR LIVES!!!!!

Thank you Beachbody for creating an opportunity for families to live their life by design! This is our story and I was INSPIRED by stories like this 3 years ago. Dreamed that one day it could be for us, but always wondered if we could actually do it. Well we have and if we can do it then anyone can. Let me share this-  If you want something more, you want to create your own future and dictate the rules, the work hours the effort and the income has been it for us!!!  This takes work and dedication and if you’re willing to go after it, the possibilities are endless. Never in a million years would I imagine this is where I would be right now!  But we are and I wouldn’t change it for the world!

What Is 22 Minute Hard Corps and Is It Right For Me?

Let’s chat about one of the most amazing programs that Beachbody has ever made. And guess what? I was honored to be chosen as a Corporate Test Group participant for this new workout and it blew me away! Tony Horton, the trainer who created the P90X series has put together this program that is only 22 minutes a day. And yes- that is LEGIT- 22 minutes a day start to finish and you can get AMAZING RESULTS and have ME as YOUR coach. As a military spouse, this program spoke to me in so many ways! And having my husband return from a deployment the last 3 weeks of this test group and join me in the workouts– he too is IMPRESSED with the basic training style workouts. It definitely reminds him of his PT mornings on the base!

My best tips:
This is all about committing to this program- focusing on the workout- giving it your all and following the nutrition plan that comes with the program. It is one of the easiest meal plans to follow and probably the most important of all of these things is having support and accountability from your Team BEACHBODY Coach {ME} and the rest of the challengers in the online support group. The secret sauce of this whole health and fitness journey is this: knowing that you are not the only one out there struggling, having a bad day, or a slip up with your nutrition. We share the journey together and are surrounded by like minded people who are on the same mission as you. And knowing that you have supportive people who have ‘got your back’ with this is icing on the cake! We are getting “bootcamp fit” with 22 Minute Hard Corps.

Let’s talk excuses for a minute too. After almost 3 years as a full time beachbody coach I have seen and heard them all… and first are foremost- I have USED nearly every excuse in the book before I started my journey too. So I am right there with you. Excuses are not reasons why you shouldn’t go all in and change your life. They are just the negative committee gathered in the back of your mind trying to fight the positive thoughts of getting out there and making CHANGE happen.

I am a mom of 2- a military wife to a man who deploys a LOT- we do not live anywhere near family- and the list goes on. When I started my journey 3 years ago I was 15 pounds overweight- anxiety filled- depressed and just miserable in my own life. I was a stay at home mom and again- alone a lot with a military husband. And I realized the only person who could make me feel better was ME. So I chose my HARD. I could choose to stay miserable- which is hard. OR I could choose to start a new journey of health and fitness- which was going to be hard too..

SO- you can see which HARD I CHOSE! And now- it’s EASY! And happiness is A BLESSING that I CHOSE to pursue!

WHAT IS 22 MINUTE HARD CORPS LIKE?

So it was created by Tony Horton who also is the creator of P90X, P90X2, P90X3, Power 90 and more. It is a mixture of eight routines that alternate between total body cardio & resistance 1 workout a day for 6 days a week. The workout is fast paced and there is little rest. The workouts are easy to pick up and learn. You are moving from exercise to exercise quickly to maximize time and results. And then the last week you have an optional HELL WEEK that is going to SHRED YOU even more! Seriously- coolest workout ever!

 

 

WHAT EQUIPMENT DO I NEED?

You will need dumbbells or a sandbag. You will also need a pull up bar OR resistance bands with a door attachment. The harder you work the faster that you will start to see results.

I know you might be thinking that you can’t do this workout, but you CAN. It is for everyone. Trust me- I have spent the last 8 weeks doing this program and I have had to modify some and the strength that I have gained- both mentally and physically are incredible.

I Eat Glitter For Breakfast

You know that silly little saying—

I Eat Glitter For Breakfast? {{ Okay okay. I know the mug says eat cake for breakfast– just pretend that it has glitter instead of cake! }}

Well- I feel like that should be every woman’s motto. There is something about it that really just perks me up and makes me change my mindset to be AWESOME everyday. It’s kind of like wearing a cape. Like a reminder to be the best superhero that I can be for myself and for my family… everyday.

Not striving to be perfect. Not striving to be someone who I’m not. But to be ME. And to love ME first so that way I can be the best version of me for everyone else! Does that even make sense? I hope this explains it!!

Do you feel like you know who you are? Like really know. Or do you feel like you have been trapped inside of a label for so long that you’ve lost yourself completely?

Are you a mom. A wife. A friend. A mentor/business woman. Do you wear many hats? Do you feel like you spend so much time filling other peoples’ cups that you do not take the time to fill your own everyday?

I used to be this person! I used to say- I’m a wife! I have to do wife things… and I would never take ME time. Then I became a mom– and then my baby came first for everything… and I hate to say it- at times.. too many times the baby came before my husband too. Then came baby #2 and it got even worse. I felt like I was in a constant spiral of cooking, cleaning, diapers, nursing, bath time, bedtime, etc that I never STOPPED…

Until one day. I did stop. I looked in the mirror and I did NOT recognized the woman staring back at me. Val had been gone for so long that I didn’t know if I would ever come back.

That’s when I made a CHOICE. A difficult and sometimes a very unbelievable choice— to start changing my mindset. To start putting me first. To start saying NO to others if it meant jeopardizing my priorities. I started putting MYSELF FIRST!…

And oh my gosh. Was that scary!!

I told myself this everyday:

√ 1 workout won’t fix you 

√ 1 week of clean eating won’t make you healthy 

√ 1 personal development book won’t change your mindset forever.

Do it all daily. Everyday. Never stop. Never skip. Just start to change. Never. Give up.

And then I started to see and feel changes. I felt better and realized that he trio is fail proof—> if you apply it! because I did!

Give yourself a gut check.

Are you going to give this your all- or are you going to float by on autopilot and make excuses?

Start the change to find YOU and do something everyday that your future self will thank you for!!

I DECIDED that I was going to exercise, start a career in turning my fitness into a business and being the best mom/wife I could be—-> AFTER putting my needs first for 30 minutes a day to make my mindset solid and my body thankful for the royal treatment!
We all have a choice.

A choice to either let the stress and negative thoughts build up and eat at us—

Or a choice to pray and let it all go! 

A choice to tell YOURSELF that today is a great day! That no matter what- we have the ability to breath in goodness and exhale the bad.

Repeat after me:

I am enough.

I am able to make the most and the best of every day I am given.

I have the ability to wake up and live everyday with happiness.

I am alive and today is a gift.

Remember to stop and smell the roses. Don’t get so caught up in everything that you forget the simple things in life that mean the most. And the fact that you CAN live any life that you choose to create. I am living my DREAMS all because I made a choice to change. A choice to make a difference and it all started with ME! I feel amazing. I am grateful for my life and when life throws me curve balls.

Surviving The Holidays- One Cookie At A Time

Who else out there looks at November and December and thinks “holy cow!! These couple of months are going to just be fitness and nutrition survival months!”  Like come on- the amount of food that most of us are exposed to is through the roof and every time we turn a corner– another Christmas cookie is trying to hop into our mouths 😉 This is where I just want to say STOP the excuses- realize that you can have a FEW treats, eat holiday dinner, but you DO NOT have to sacrifice your waistline at the same time. I know for a 100% fact that if you have a desire and a drive to stay motivated, to NOT gain 10-20 pounds this holiday season and to really just stay true to yourself— then you will find a way to make good choices and NOT allow excuses to take over. I for one will allow myself to have 12 cookies from Thanksgiving to Christmas! Yes- I set a number of how many cookies I will eat over the holidays! THAT WAY- when I am at a party and I catch myself reaching for a store bought cookie that really isn’t that good anyways- I will remind myself “HEY! Aunt Sally is making her sugar cookies next weekend! I’m going to wait for those!”

For the last 2 1/2 years of coaching I have heard every excuse in the books! Seriously- people will try almost anything to get themselves to believe in these nonsense excuses of why their health and fitness has to wait until January… WHAT?!! Ummm… no. by that time- motivation is gone. 20 pounds have been packed on. Blood pressure and cholesterol levels are increasing, your mood is icky, you feel depressed and TIRED all the time and your self confidence is down the toilet. I LOVE to see and work with people who are determined to at least maintain and keep health a priority all year long!

My Top 4 Successful Weight Loss Tips:

1.  You have to have a WHY. A reason that will allow you to go strong even when you don’t feel like it. You can’t just sorta kinda want to change, you have to REALLY WANT TO CHANGE MORE THAN YOU WANT TO STAY THE SAME!  After the novelty of the new program wears off, what is going to keep you going?  It’s internal motivation to change more than you want to stay the same!

2.  Commitment.  Successful people are those who stay committed long after the ‘fun’ of something has worn off. They learn to be driven. They are willing to do whatever it takes to be successful and they are not QUITTERS. They are committed to believing in the process and starting and finishing the fitness program exactly as it is laid out and they will evaluate and tweak their program as they go.  Success means you are ALL IN! When we fall off the wagon- we get back up, brush ourselves off and continue to drive forward!

3.  FAITH and VISION.  People who succeed at their goals have faith!  They believe that what they are doing WILL work, some way, they will be successful at this weight loss game. It’s not a simple task. It is a process and successful people are ready to go the distance. It’s not about working out for 4 hours a day and starving yourself- nothing is acheived by that. It is about believing in the trainers, in your program, following the nutrition plan as best as you can and it will all work. Do not second guess!!! It is designed the way it is for a reason! TRUST me- do it and get results.

 



4. Successful people follow the nutrition plan.  I tried to fight this for YEARS. I’m telling you. I would say all the time “I’m already thin and my body just needs to hold onto that extra 10 pounds bc it’s the way im meant to be… or, i’m skinny fat and I workout- im not meant to have definition… OR this one– I can eat fast food everyday because I will just workout after.”  Those are things I said and did for years. Until one day- I opened my eyes and got tired of feeling ICKY! Nutrition is SO IMPORTANT. If you aim to eat. If you track your food in a journal, you track your water intake, you allow yourself 1 or 2 treats per week you will make great steady and healthy progress!  You can have your cake and eat it too!

My mission this holiday season is to help you succeed. I want to see you through the good times and the bad! I want to keep you ACCOUNTABLE and MOTIVATED to either start or continue on your journey! I will NOT ask you to be super strict these next two months. Hardly- I am going to help you stay accountable and just TRY.

It’s time to end 2015 with a bang instead of starting 2016 10-20 pounds heavier and feeling miserable!!!!
 

Think about how much more energy you could have this season. You could enjoy wrapping Christmas presents, shopping, going from party to party, hanging out with friends and totally making time to do all of the things you enjoy! All that you need to do is eat healthier and workout 30 minutes a day. That’s it! I do it- so can you 🙂

My Favorite Oatmeal Recipe!

As a busy mom- I am always trying to come up with new and creative ways to not only fuel my own body, but to get nutrients into my kids!! That can be hard when all they really want it cinnamon toast crunch cereal or toaster strudels! Who else feels my pain?!!
So I came up with this gem of a recipe that will make your taste buds and your kiddos taste buds dance!!! My girls actually asked for MORE! That is an accomplishment!!!
So here’s how I make it!
Grab a sauce pan- I use 1 yellow container (21 Day Fix containers) of water- which equals 1/2 cup.
Bring the water to a boil. 
Add 1/2 cup (yellow container) of dry old fashioned oats
Add 1/2 cup (1/2 purple container) frozen blueberries – I get mine from Sam’s Club
Add 1 tsp. peanut butter – let’s be real… I do a heaping tsp…. it’s just that good.
Cook on low for about 4 minutes.
Pour into a bowl and add 1/2 chopped banana (1 purple container)
Cinnamon to taste!
It’s SO EASY and SO GOOD!!!
